Witney Vikings Youth Football Club

2025 - 50 Years of Vikings!

2025 marks the 50th Anniversary of our very special Football Club

We chose to celebrate across the weekend of 12th and 13th July 2025 and there are so many people to thank, including Wood Green School and the PTA, the Windrush Club, the Witney and District Museum, those who organised and produced the plethora of trophies, those who organised, displayed stickers and took part in the 50th Birthday Treasure Hunt, the organisers and participants of the Just Play Tournament and, of course, the amazing players, parents, coaches and other supporters and sponsors of the mighty Witney Vikings Youth Football Club.

Lastly, we would be nothing without the energy, enthusiasm and talents of our Chairman, Steve Bott, and our Treasurer, Maria Frindle, who dedicate almost all of their free time to this club – we are so, so lucky to have them!

Here is a video showing a few of the highlights from our anniversary weekend:

Our History

It all started in 1975 when Latin was the pre-eminent language of the common man. This is what the Chairman at the time had to say…

Mira res est blandus, sed multo maior voluptas ludendi!

Winning is a wonderful thing, but the pleasure of playing is much greater!

The following are some of the other high brow and inspirational comments that were made on the pitch in those good old days

It turns out that we had a girls’ team in the early 1990s. They had to travel around the country to get a game. The team photo was taken at a tournament hosted by Summertown in 1991. The trophy was one that was presented to each of the players at the end of the 1992/93 season.

True pioneers!

Some Photos From Our Past

Here is a selection of 106 photographs from the last 50 years. You may be on one or spot someone you know!

Lastly

Lastly, here is something we found behind the old fridges in the container at Burwell, apparently a relic from the Chairman’s playing days:
